A public indeceny charge against former UTC spokesperson Chuck Cantrell ends in a guilty plea. Cantrell appeared in Hamilton County Sessions
Court on Tuesday February 22nd. Judge Lila Statom asked Cantrell how he wanted to plead. Cantrell nodded and Judge Statom said the word “Guilty”. Cantrell was ordered to pay a $500 fine. He had finished required public service under the plea agreement.
The public indecency charge resulted from an undercover police investigation in November at the Cinema One adult theatre on Rossville Boulevard. Chattanooga PD issued misdemeanor citations for Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing, Chuck Cantrell; and Coordinator for Veteran Student Services, Joe Wiram, for public indecency. Both men were placed on leave and later resigned from UTC.
Earlier, Wiram plead guilty under a diversion agreement and got a $500 fine. Under Tennessee law, a first time offender can avoid a jail sentence and have their record expunged after a probationary period. Both men can have their records expunged after their fines are paid.
