Working at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Provides Competitive Benefits to its Employees

CHATTANOOGA(mocsnews.com)- Three UTC employees share their appreciation for the campus community and benefits offered while serving their administrative careers in the heart of the student center.

From health benefits to tuition assistance, employees at UTC have proven their loyalty with career longevity and representation of their employment. Whether an individual has been employed for six months or 40 years, employees express their gratitude of the benefits that the university provides.

UTC Chancellor Steven Angle said, “The success that we’ve look at in the past and where we are going in the future is really credit to every one of our team members.”

Every year during the spring season, the university gives thanks to its employees by inviting them to partake in a staff appreciation brunch hosted by the chancellor’s department. Staff can socialize, meet new faces and enjoy a hot breakfast.

Shirley Hatfield, Sr. Account Specialist at the Bursar’s Office, has been employed at UTC since August 24th, 1988. She decided to apply for a position in the Bursar’s Office after finding out the university offered a full-time position with benefits and satisfying pay.

“This has been the best job I’ve ever had and enjoyed,” said Hatfield, “I’ve been at UTC for 35 years this August and have been in the same office all these years”.

The health insurance is Hatfield’s favorite benefit from employment and plans to stay with the University until retirement.

Annette Morrison, Assistant Bursar of the Bursar’s Office, started her journey at the university in March 2019.

“I wanted to advance my career within the university”, said Morrison.

The opportunity for career advancement is her favorite benefit. She was recently promoted from a housing department specialist to the Assistant Bursar.

Human Resources is consistently adding internal or external campus positions  ,offering flexibility and a healthy balance between work and personal life.

Monica Watson, Administrative Specialist in the Counseling Center, started working at the university in August 2019. Watson also took advantage of the career advancement opportunities, starting in the Registrar’s Office and promoting to the Counseling Center.

Watson’s favorite benefit is the tuition assistance, which she is currently to earn her bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

What influenced her to apply at UTC was not only hearing that it is “a great place to work,” but also that “the pay is excellent and offers many other benefits”.

The student life is her favorite thing about working at UTC. Working in the University Center offers daily interaction with current or upcoming students, faculty and staff.

“The students keep me grounded and feeling youthful,” said Watson.

In addition to Watson, Morrison is also planning to pursue an additional degree around her work schedule.
