Suspect Accused for the Moscow Massacre in November 2022 Attends Plea Arraignment

MOSCOW, Idaho (mocsnews.com)- The suspect accused for the brutal murder of four University of Idaho students declined to enter a plea to the judge during Monday mornings arraignment.


Kohberger’s attorney, Anne Taylor, stood up and proceeded to tell the judge that he would “stand silent” when asked for a plea at an unexpected arraignment that took place last Monday.

Kohberger is the suspect arrested and charged with burglary along with four counts of first-degree murder in the slayings of four university students. Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were brutally murdered in their off campus rental home in Moscow.

Latah County Judge John C. Judge entered the plea in as not guilty due to the suspect deciding to “stand silent”.

Few details in the case have been released due to a gag order, but enough evidence was provided to convince a secret grand jury to indict Kohberger. Evidence included 10,200 photographs, 9,200 tips and 51 terabytes of information including audio and videos clips.

Kohberger was arrested at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania on Dec. 30, 2022 after investigators had been tracking him on a cross country road trip from Washington State to their house. One single piece of DNA evidence was found on a knife sheath located next to a victim at the scene of the crime ,which was enough evidence for police to make the arrest.

A trial for is expected to begin on Oct. 2, 2023 and is estimated to last six weeks, but could be delayed or moved to a different location. Prosecutors have 60 days to make the decision of whether they would like the death penalty to be the outcome if Kohberger is found guilty.
