Orientation Goes Online

From Yancy Freeman, Vice-Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs

Dear Campus Colleagues,

After much thoughtful consideration, we have made the decision to move our summer transfer and freshman Orientation sessions to an online format. We are still hoping to offer some in-person programming in August prior to the start of the fall term, but this decision will depend on future CDC requirements. Our online program is necessary to protect student health and the health of the broader UT Chattanooga community, while still introducing our incoming students and their families to the information and resources they need to be successful at UTC.

We want to ensure the virtual Orientation experience delivers the same quality as a traditional face to face session. Over the next few weeks, staff from the Orientation office will be reaching out to our campus and community stakeholders to detail ways in which we can partner on this process.

Registered orientation students will begin receiving communication about this process early next week. We are currently working on updating the Orientation website and will have a list of FAQ’s that will answer basic questions. We are also working on plans to communicate information and options to students that we are actively recruiting and may not have made a firm college decision yet. I feel fortunate that we have established a robust course pre-registration process as well a foundation of campus support and partnerships that will help us navigate these new measures.
