Purdue could roll out freshman, Plummer, in wake of Sindelar’s concussion.

Purdue starting quarterback, Elijah Sindelar went into the medical tent on the team’s final offensive play after a hit to the head on a third down run.

This was the result of a concussion late in the fourth quarter of the Boilermakers’ win over the Vanderbilt Commodores. Before injury, Sindelar registered 509 passing yards in addition to 6 total touchdowns, earning the Big Ten offensive player of the week. Redshirt freshman, Jack Plummer from Gilbert AZ., will be forced into action if Sindelar can’t suit up for the highly anticipated showdown with the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs.

Boilermaker’s head coach Jeff Brohm is optimistic in Plummer’s ability to lead the offense if it comes down to it. “We’re very confident in Jack,” Brohm said. “He’s had good weeks of practice. He’s improved. He’s got some moxie to him, some athleticism. I think he’s gaining confidence because he’s practiced well, and he has to always be ready to go. We tell him that all the time.”

Plummer was the number five overall ranked player by 247 Sports out of Arizona as a part of the 2018 recruiting class. “I think he can run it (the offense). That’s kind of one of his strengths. He’s very smart, very cerebral,” said Brohm. “He overthinks things a little bit, but that’s not a bad quality, and he works hard at it. I think he has a very bright future here.”

The TCU Horned Frogs will be a very challenging test for a quarterback possibly making their debut. Historically, coach Gary Patterson’s defenses usually rank near the top of the country statistically. Brohm says Purdue will be ready for whatever TCU throws at them, with or without Sindelar.

The (1-1) Purdue Boilermakers host the (1-0) TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday night in West Lafayette, IN. A game preview via ESPN is available here.
