UTC is participating in the city, state, and national Drug Take-Back event this week by collecting unused and expired medication. This initiative is aimed at providing our community with a safe way to dispose of expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter medication. UTC will be collecting faculty, staff, students, and community members unwanted or unused medication on October 25th from 11 to 1 in Heritage Plaza!
Also, we are excited to announce that UTC is a permanent take-back location! You can dispose of your medications using the UTC Take-Back box located that the UTC Police Department!
Why should you participate?
- Flushing & throwing away medication pollutes our water system.
- Prescription drugs are often stolen from our cabinets.
- Leaving medication in cabinets allows others to use them for recreational purpose.
- Removing unwanted or expired medications from the medicine cabinet is an easy and concrete step that everyone can take to make a difference in the opioid crisis.
- Sharing medication is illegal and dangerous! Don’t keep it around for others to use!
- It keeps you organized and frees space in your cabinets.
The collection process:
-
Please bring containers in the original containers with your personal information crossed out.
-
Bring prescription, over-the-counter, and even your pet’s medication!
-
DO NOT bring needles, IV bags, or radioactive medications. Contact your health provider for information regarding disposal of these items.
-
Each participant will place their medications in the collection box. You can submit them in a plastic bag or sandwich bag if you have multiple.
-
Proper disposal will be handled by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
