Jim Foster is stepping down as head basketball coach for UTC. Foster is retiring after a 40 year career. UTC Athletic Director Mark Wharton made the announcement in an email.

It is with mixed emotions that I inform you that women’s basketball head coach Jim Foster has decided to retire. While we are sad to lose a Hall of Fame individual like Coach Foster, we are excited for him and Donna as they enter the next phase of their lives.
Coach Foster recently concluded his 40th year as a NCAA Division I head women’s basketball coach. As we all know, he spent five amazing seasons guiding student-athletes to success on and off the court at UTC.
His career included stops at St. Joseph’s (1979-91), Vanderbilt (1992-02), Ohio State (2003-13) and Chattanooga (2014-18). With the Mocs, he posted an overall record of 120-40 (.750) and 76-10 in Southern Conference action.
Under Coach Foster, UTC won four straight SoCon regular season and tournament titles, while advancing to the postseason all five years. He was named the SoCon Coach of the Year in 2015, leading UTC into the Top-25 with wins over Tennessee and Stanford.
We are all so appreciative of the work Coach Foster did at UTC. Not only did he bring national attention to our University, but he did so with class and dignity that deserves recognition.
There will be an official announcement later today. We plan to do a national search and move as quickly as possible, but there is no timeline. In the meantime Katie Burrows is serving as the interim head coach.
