CHATTANOOGA, TENN (mocsnews.com) – Lip Sync is one of the biggest campus traditions during UTC’s homecoming week. Students perform show-stopping, energetic, and creative Lip Sync routines with hopes of earning the top spot. There is a lot of preparation that goes into the performance and preparations for the fall performance begin as early as June.
“I started to think of themes and songs in June. Choreography started in August,” Emma Warmus, the Lip Sync Chair for Delta Zeta, said.

The competition is open to all student organizations, although Greek organizations are usually the only ones to participate. This year, eight Greek organizations participated; Sigma Kappa, Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Alpha Gamma Delta, Lambda Chi Alpha, and Pi Kappa Alpha.
Delta Zeta began practicing the first week of school, according to Warmus. The performance was Wednesday, October 8th, which means the ladies of Delta Zeta had about 6 weeks to practice and prepare.
“I got the position because I helped with the girl in charge last year,” said Warmus. “I was not officially in charge, but she would always look to me for help. That’s how I ended up being fully in charge. With this position I am in charge of holding tryouts, choosing the team, make practice times with dates that work for everyone, picking themes and songs, working with our music girl to make sure everything is perfect, going to meetings when asked, picking costumes, creating the costume, and making sure everyone knows what is happening the day of.”

The overall theme of Homecoming this year was “UTC and Beyond.” According to the rules of Lip Sync, the songs used must coincide with the set theme of your production and the overall Homecoming theme of “space.”
Each organization’s theme and songs were due to those in charge of Lip Sync on August 25th.
“I went through multiple themes but when I talked to the girl who ran it last year, we listened to all the songs picked and realized ‘Little Einsteins’ was the best fit for our storyline and the music,” said Warmus.

The competition took place at McKenzie Arena on the night of October 8th, and every organization put their best foot forward. First, second, and third place went to Sigma Kappa, Chi Omega, and Alpha Delta Pi in that order.

“I loved every minute of it, and I cannot wait for Greek Show,” Warmus will continue her role and lead Greek Show for Delta Zeta in the spring.
