Political Stunt Promised Migrants Jobs and Free Housing Before Going to Martha’s Vineyard

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (mocnews.com) – After 50 migrants arrived in Martha’s Vineyard on Tuesday by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a political stunt, many are left with no jobs or housing. 

Upon arrival in Massachusetts, the home of former President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris, the migrants from Venezuela unwittingly became pawns in a political game over U.S. immigration policy. 

Without a clear plan for where they should go, many families lended a helping hand to those in need. The migrants from Venezuela spent two nights at St. Andrews Episcopal Church and Parish House in Edgartown. Church volunteers and community members rushed to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

Carlos Muños, an immigrant from Venezuela, journeyed with his four-year-old son to give his son a meaningful education and the freedom to express his opinions without fear of persecution. Muños said, “I want peace, tranquility.” 

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the flights to Edgartown were part of an effort to “transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations.” The Florida Legislature has earmarked $12 million to transport “unauthorized aliens” out of state. 

The political stunt won’t be the last time Gov. DeSantis flys migrants without notice – a move his critics depict as a cruel attempt for political gain – has announced the he’s doubling down. 

“We’ve got an infrastructure in place now. There’s going to be a lot more that’s happening,” DeSantis said Friday, according to CNN. 

While Gov. DeSantis transports immigrants as a political stunt and is amounted to as “crimes against humanity on refugees,” with mindless cruelty, the Edgartown community immediately jumps into action to help victims and give them a newfound hope for their new lives.
