UTC Mocs Soccer Team sees outstanding year

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (mocsnews.com) –  University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has seen a great year so far when it comes to the soccer team. Chattanooga is 3-2-1 in the SoCon with wins over VMI and Wofford and a tie against the Spartans. Overall, UTC is 5-8-2 with an average of 0.73 goals and 10.6 shots per game.

UTC’s soccer team has seen many players break through this season with amazing performances. Samantha Shaw leads the team with four goals with her first three coming from her first three shots this season. Seven other players have scored a goal for the Mocs this season and Abby Saddler has four of UTC’s six shutouts of the season this year.

“The Mocs freshman have been featured in the lineup with freshman Kelly Tuerff starting in 13 games this season. Sofia Andrade started the first nine matches before illness kept her out of the SoCon opener. JaNiya Stevens has made six starts and joins Ella Roth off the bench. Sylvie Keck made her first start and scored her first goal in the first three minutes against VMI. Freshman keeper Sydney Weinstein got her first taste of collegiate action against Tennessee Tech.”

The Mocs return 18 letterwinners and add six newcomers to the 2020-21 roster. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, players on the team were granted another season of eligibility. For the last three seasons the Mocs have had Samantha and Maggie Shaw, twins from Columbia S.C., on the roster and recently were joined by Delaney and Dakota Mitchell adding on to the team. These two sets of twins are great additions for the Mocs.

Seeing freshman dominate is extremely promising for the future of UTC’s soccer team and the coaches are pleased with the way the players are performing on the field and they continue to strive for success not only on the field but in the classroom as well. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Department, in partnership with From Now On, has launched a free app that gives fans easy access to the Mocs information they want most. The ‘Go Mocs’ app presented by FirstBank provides users with live stats, game day information, ticket purchasing, and exclusive Mocs content all in one place. It  includes push notifications, allowing fans to be the first to know about upcoming games and scoring.
