MLK Day of Service

By Emalae Howland

UTC’s day of service honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior through volunteer projects and activities.

The event was hosted by UTC and by the city of Chattanooga.

Many people gathered to volunteer to help clean up Pleasant Gardens cemetery.

Citizens of Chattanooga and students at UTC came out to remove brush in the cold to give back to the community.

A leader of Sigma Kappa, Gina Schmid, talked about her organization’s volunteer work. “I thought it was just going to be us at this site but there’s actually like twenty people so that’s really exciting. It’s not just our chapter serving, it’s our local community. Well there’s a lot of people coming out and serving today in Chattanooga which is something that surprised me so just seeing the impact that the citizens of Chattanooga want to have on the community is really great.”

The event started at 8am with a kick-off celebration and continued  until 12:30pm.
