Chattanooga police and other local responders conducted a training exercise on UTC campus.
The training took place in the old Southeast Center for Education and Arts Building on McCallie Avenue.
Five police dogs were being trained to search for a hidden “drug dealer” within the complex.
“We’re wanting to see our dogs’ response to the odor of a person that is hiding,” says Chattanooga police K-9 Trainer Barry Vandenburg, “and then see our dogs zero in on that odor, and see if they can, on their own, find the hiding place, and then give us indication of where they think somebody is hiding.”
The purpose of the exercise was to get officers prepared for any sort of situation that would require them to use their K-9 dogs.
